Classic Movies for the Lover In Us All
Valentine’s Day, so good in theory, may be the most vomit-inducing, annoying holiday. While movies like Valentine’s Day (it’s bad–really, really bad) can make you nauseous, here is a list of romantic movies that are actually cool.
Casablanca
Rick may be the coolest cat to romance a girl–and still lose the girl. He’s the quintessential tough guy with a soft side he hides from Nazis and people needing exit papers. Rick and Ilsa’s love story is stylish and original and with lines like “of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine,” it stands the test of time. Can we bring back ‘gin joints’ to our vernacular? Please?
When Harry Met Sally
Funny, irreverent and oh so truthful – few films have examined relationships, breakups, awkward sex, or orgasm re-enactments as hilariously or honestly as When Harry Met Sally.
Princess Bride
What should be a silly kids’ movie is so much more. The Princess Bride is sweet, funny and ridiculous. For a movie that talks about true love a lot, you’d think it would get mushy or cheesy. Think again. Even men can’t help but love it.
Amelie
Maybe you think French films aren’t your thing. Not Amelie. This gem is whimsical, poignant, clever, and has a cool sense of the absurd that keeps it from getting schmaltzy. You’ll walk out of this film wanting to adopt Audrey Tautou (the most loveable, plucky heroine ever). And you’ll appreciate a photo booth like never before.
The Wedding Singer
Even rockers want to fall in love. Back when Adam Sandler made good movies, this was one of the best. Silly and sweet, with a kick-ass 80’s soundtrack and a Billy Idol cameo - what’s not to love?
