Celebs You Didn’t Know Were Fashion Designers
In fashion, “Celebrity Collections” are often little more than endorsement deals, but not so for these four famous faces you may not know as dedicated clothing designers. Take a look:
John Malkovich
John Malkovich thinks there’s a correlation between designing and acting–both call for constant reinvention. His Techno Bohemian menswear line is an attempt to redefine the artist/vagabond look for the modern age. The result is Italian tailoring and eccentric prints or exactly what you’d expect from the actor: elegance that’s slightly touched.
Chloe Sevigny
Chloe Sevigny’s rep as a fashion icon goes way back to 1994 when as a 19 yr. old unknown she was profiled in the New Yorker as Manhattan’s new “It Girl.” These days she designs quirky collections for Opening Ceremony like a unisex “gay lumberjack” line and nerdy sexy women’s wear for a 2012 runway collection held in a youth center.
Kanye West
Kanye West introduced his women’s line, DW, this month with his usual I’m-No-Dilettante bravado. But debuting his first collection at Paris Fashion Week was perhaps an overstep. Seemingly ill-fitting and calendar impaired (fur for Summer?), the reviews were divided at best and KW spent most of the week on the defensive.
Sienna Miller
Sienna Miller and her sister Savannah launched their London line twenty8twelve in 2007. They’re still going strong with, sexy, slouchy women’s wear that’s a little bit perky, a little bit rock and roll. Think funky girly-girl. And they’ve added a fun bit of lottery shopping–personal notes or poems from the sisters are hidden inside some of the pieces.
