A few years ago, journalism student Leandra Medine started “The Man Repeller,” a blog focused on the wide world of fashion. Now just six months after finishing school, Medine runs one of the more respected fashion blogs in the business. She took a few minutes out of her full-time schedule to tell us about staying current in the ever-changing world of fashion.
Why is the blog called “Man Repeller”?
The site is about trends that women love and men hate. It’s a catchy name to evoke that in two short words.

What are the toughest things about being a full-time fashion blogger?
You constantly have to be shopping and indulging in new fashions and styles so you know what people are wearing and how they look. This is actually kind of a great thing too. I always have my “work eye” on, if you know what I mean, whether it’s Fashion Week or I am just walking around. Blogging about fashion is a 24-hour job. It requires constant updating in order to be relevant. Being relevant is probably the toughest part.
Sounds exhausting. Do you ever get a break?
Rarely. After Fashion Week I’m ready to kill myself.
Where is fashion moving right now?
This is going to sound weird, but I think it’s regressing with an element of new. Like, right now the 80’s has gone away and I’m seeing a resurgence of the 90’s with a little 50’s. It’s a take on a previous era with a sort of new flair. Though the 80′s will probably be back.
